This week’s Living Arrows entry is a cold one. Winter has seemed to drag on and I’ve forgotten what being warm feels like. J doesn’t give a monkeys about weather and goes out in rain and cold…always needing reminders to wear a coat!
Despite my dislike of the cold I do insist on getting out in as much as possible. I’ve always been a believer that ‘there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing’. We’ll wrap up and go out to the woods or the park.
This week we spent time in the back garden. I’ve been trying to prepare it for spring so cutting back dead plants, uncovering pots so they can see the limited sunshine and also getting ready for the big freeze.
Whilst out we noticed everywhere was still icy, so we had an ‘ice hunt’. We found two particularly funny ice patches. One which made J laugh was the balls that froze on top of the rainwater (J had fun smashing it too).
But the one which had us the most interested was this weeks photo. J tipped out the ice from a pot off his outdoor kitchen. A leaf had frozen right in the middle of the ice block. We decided to put it in the sun and see what would happen.
We continued to play. J was Kylo Ren and running around garden with sticks looking for rebels. If you haven’t seen J’s new Kylo Ren outfit head over to our Instagram as it’s just too cute! We regularly checked back and it was slowly melting but J still couldn’t pick up the leaf (and wasn’t too keen on touching the ice). By the time we got ready to go back in the leaf was half in/half out. I asked J what he could see was happening and he said ‘”water”. He had noticed the ice was melting into water.
We’ve now left it outside to see if it freezes again. We’ve also left more water around the garden to see what happens as the ‘beast from the east’ approaches.
I hope everyone is prepared for this next bunch of very cold days. Be safe and I look forward to seeing photos of the snow ❄️
(Since writing this we have had our first bundle of snow. So I’ve written a post with some of the activities we already explored and have set up for the next couple of days).
